Self Tape 101

This is our signature Takeda Technique class – the introduction to self-tape where all students start. This is where we teach you the basics of self-tape from a filmmaking perspective.

For example, did you know there is only one rule to audio? If you follow it, you’ll get great audio every time. And did you know there is only one type of lighting used on every TV show and film set that makes you look amazing? Our Self-Tape 101 class will teach you this and more.

Self-Tape 101 runs four weeks. Each student gets individualized evaluations on your weekly self-tapes so you improve week-to-week. Upon completion, our students have the basics and are able to spend most of their prep time working on the important stuff. (Like memorization, character choices, relationships and acting!)

Self-Tape 201

This is our advanced self-tape class in the Takeda Technique. This is where you learn how to use the camera – the most powerful tool ever created. If you know how to use the camera effectively, your auditions have a huge advantage; if not…uh oh!

This is also a performance workshop where we teach you how to use filmmaking skills to enhance your performance skills. We dig deep into eye-lines, camera angles, how to position your body so everything is captured by the lens for maximum impact. We also teach you how to transfer all of your self-tape skills to live auditions, now a key component of auditions.

Students should be ready to work in each Takeda Technique 201 workshop.

Prerequisite: Self-Tape 101

Self Tape 301

Self-Tape 301 is the Takeda Technique’s our most popular class. It helps you master your (live) self-tape skills before working casting professionals from Los Angeles, New York, and regional markets like Atlanta, Utah, and New Mexico.

These casting professionals are your instructors. In the past, they’ve taught workshops ranging from comedies to how-to-do-procedural costars to common traps in auditions. The 301 is so popular, we now have all-alumni workshops for those who have graduated.

Previous casting professionals have included Leo Wolfe (FOX’ “9-1-1’), Tracy Kilpatrick (Universal’s “Pitch Perfect”), Coco Kleppinger (Warner Bros’ “Shazam!”) Jennifer Buster (HBO’s “Band of Brothers”) and former HBO-Max executive head of casting Mike Page.

Prerequisite: Self-Tape 101 and 201.

Upcoming Self-Tape 301 workshops

Self-Tape 401

This is our most advanced Takeda Technique class. Learn the secrets of being a working actor in our self-tape world.

Why do some actors just seem to work all the time? What have they figured out? Do they have a certain “star-factor?” If so, do you? And most importantly, how do you put that in a self-tape? Also, did you know it’s possible to book and work on network TV shows and studio feature films shot around the country from where you live? (Hint…you can.)

In this Takeda Technique class, you’ll learn how our business works, how to find your place in it, how you should format your IMDb page, and the in’s-and-out’s of working in multiple markets. (Made possible by self-tape.)

Prerequisite: Self-Tape 101, 201, and 301. (Some 201 students allowed with instructor permission.)
